The Ivins Youth Council attended the opening of the 2025 State Legislative session. They had an exciting and full day with a tour of the beautiful Capitol building and a personal visit to the House Chamber with our state representative Neil Walter. We ended the day with dinner with Rep. Walter and time to ask questions and give feedback on his upcoming bills. Such a great experience for our youth and we are thankful both for Ivins City’s support of this program and Representative Walter for taking time to talk and listen to our youth council members. Excited for tomorrow’s Local Officials Day events!
The Ivins City Youth Council had an incredible second day at the State Capitol and Salt Palace Convention Center! The day started with breakfast at the Capitol, followed by lunch at the Salt Palace, where the youth were inspired by guest speaker Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson.
One of the highlights was participating in a mock floor debate, where Youth Councils from across Utah tackled real-world topics like addressing concerns for the upcoming Salt Lake City Olympics, expanding the TRAX rail system, and exploring solutions for affordable housing. It’s been amazing to watch these future leaders engage in meaningful discussions, explore the legislative process, and share their ideas for improving our communities. What an empowering and educational experience!
