The room was filled with excitement, laughter, new friendships, and enough ideas to keep us busy for the entire year!
The 2026-27 Ivins Youth Council officially kicked off yesterday as members took their oath of office and began what promises to be an exciting year of leadership, service, and making a real difference in our community.
After introductions and the oath of office, they didn’t waste any time getting to work. Within minutes, they were already brainstorming projects for Heritage Days, discussing ways to make city events more fun for children and families, and imagining service projects that could have a lasting impact on Ivins.
One team volunteered to research the best parade giveaways for this year’s Heritage Days Parade while staying within a budget. Another group will work with the Parks Department to help make Heritage Days children’s activities even more exciting. The entire Youth Council also began discussing ideas for its own Heritage Days parade entry, with possibilities ranging from a decorated vehicle to partnering with the Ivins Animal Shelter to help encourage pet adoption.
Perhaps the most exciting discussion of the evening centered on community service.
Rather than thinking about one-day projects, the students immediately began imagining ways they could improve Ivins for years to come. Ideas included refurbishing basketball courts, improving neighborhood parks, adding benches and shade at bus stops, creating a public graffiti wall for young artists, exploring a bike park, and many other creative possibilities.
Those ideas perfectly captured this year’s vision.
The Ivins Youth Council isn’t simply about attending meetings or volunteering at events. It’s about learning leadership by identifying community needs, working together, developing solutions, and seeing projects through from idea to reality.
Throughout the year, members will have opportunities to work with city leaders, help organize community events, serve on project teams, develop leadership skills, and discover how local government works from the inside.
We’re especially excited to welcome this outstanding group of young leaders and can’t wait to see where their imagination, energy, and commitment will take them over the coming year.

We currently have room for three additional Youth Council members, but applications close on August 4. After that date, new members would have missed the orientation, team formation, and early planning that provide the foundation for the year.
