On June 8, Ivins City Hall was filled with families eager to celebrate America’s founding and learn more about the principles that shaped our nation.
The evening was the vision of Ivins resident Stacie Mehr, who has devoted years to studying and writing about the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the lives and ideas of our nation’s Founding Fathers. Drawing on that knowledge, she created an engaging, family-friendly presentation designed to introduce children to the remarkable story behind our country’s founding.
Rather than simply reading history from a book, the presentation brought those events to life through storytelling, discussion, and audience participation.
Youth Council members Chloe Nickle, Sam Haws, and Ethan Paz had the honor of presenting Stacie’s program. They confidently shared the story of the Declaration of Independence, helping young audience members better understand why America’s founders believed liberty, self-government, and individual rights were worth fighting for.

Although the program was designed with children in mind, many adults commented afterward that they learned something new as well. The evening served as a reminder that history is not just about memorizing dates and events. It is about understanding the ideas and principles that continue to influence our nation today.
Following the presentation, the Youth Council members helped lead a variety of patriotic games, puzzles, and hands-on activities that kept children engaged while reinforcing many of the lessons they had just learned.
The event drew an outstanding turnout of families and demonstrated what can happen when dedicated community volunteers and enthusiastic young leaders work together. Stacie’s thoughtful preparation, combined with the Youth Council’s energy and willingness to serve, created an evening that was both educational and enjoyable.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Stacie Mehr for the countless hours she invested in researching, developing, and organizing this outstanding program. We also thank Chloe Nickle, Sam Haws, and Ethan Paz for representing the Ivins Youth Council so well and helping inspire the next generation to learn more about our nation’s history and the responsibilities of citizenship.
Events like Declaration of Independence Family Night reflect one of the Youth Council’s core goals: serving the community while developing leadership, communication skills, and a lifelong appreciation for civic engagement.
