Youth Council Member Ollie Robertson Speaks About the Swing Set

Ivins Youth Council member Ollie Robertson was interviewed by Chris Reed for Fox13 News on February 12, 2025. Here, in her own words, Ollie explains why the Youth Council came up with the idea for getting an ADA-accessible swing set for Unity Park.

Snow Canyon High School student Ollie Robertson, now in her second year with the Ivins Youth Council—a group established three years ago as a junior counterpart to the city council— is championing inclusivity in her community.

The Youth Council assists in organizing city-sponsored events, aiming to engage the youth demographic. Robertson, who doesn’t necessarily aspire to a political career, is driven by a desire to foster community involvement and inclusivity. She identified a need for accessible play equipment in the sandpit adjacent to the playground at UNITY Park.

“I do really like the idea of a more inclusive Ivins. This is literally called UNITY Park,” she explained. Ollie pointed out why this is important, “UNITY stands for Uniting Neighbors of Ivins Together Year-Round. It’s called UNITY Park for a reason, to bring everyone in Ivins together, and everyone sometimes includes people with disabilities,” Robertson noted. “It’s a little unfair that they don’t have a swing set.”
