The Ivins Youth Council participated in Wreaths Across America on December 16th at the Ivins cemetery, helping to place wreaths to remember and honor our veterans through the laying of remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each and every veteran aloud.
The Ivins Youth Council spend an evening with the City’s Fire Department to learn about how the city responds to fires and medical emergencies. It wasn’t a lecture though. They got to try on respirators and safety masks, test the weight of safety equipment, and operate the department’s electric dolly.
Ivins Youth Council members helped the organizers of a candidate forum for Ivins residents looking to be elected to the City Council. Youth Council members were the official timekeepers to ensure all candidates had the same opportunity to speak. Plus, Youth Council member Ollie Robertson asked candidates a question, as did youth Council Mayor, Summer Terry.
The Ivins Youth Council worked with the City’s Parks and Recreation Department to set up spooky and fun displays for a Halloween party in Heritage Park.
The Ivins Youth Council met with the Police Department to learn about how the City provides public safety. They also participated in demonstrations, including arrest procedures, a canine drug sniffing demonstration by K9 Copper, and how to use a riot shield.
The Ivins Youth Council participated in the Ivins Heritage Days parade. That was just to start the day. They spent the rest of the day overseeing games for children. It was exhausting but fun.
The Ivins Youth Council put together a Summer Foam Blast event at Unity Park with help from the Ivins Parks and Recreation department and the Fire Department. Food, music, a water slide, dunk tank, and tons of foam were involved. Okay, maybe not “tons” of foam, but you get the idea.
Ivins Youth Council members hold regular work meetings at the Ivins City Hall. At this meeting they discuss plans for future volunteer activities with guest speaker Chris Haddad.
Welcome Jaycee Terry, Ollie Roberston, and Madeline Francis. These are the three newest members of the Ivins Youth Council who were sworn into office by Ivins city Recorder Kari Jimenez.
The Ivins Youth Council held their first annual banquet at Red Mountain Resort in May. They celebrated their achievements for the year and members were recognized for their exceptional service. Graduating members, Connor Oliphant and Samuel Gillette were also awarded small scholarships.
